Today everything went wrong.
I seem to be thinking that a lot recently.
Woke up in the early hours with some heavies trying to kidnap Sara. I should have got us further away from Seattle. That mistake almost lost us Jerome. He took three bullets. He's in bad shape, I patched him up as best I could, I don't want the complication of checking him into a hospital.
We high-tailed it out of the motel and continued north towards the border. Ran into a Krai ambush. They were out for blood. Six of them, all armed. I think they wanted to eliminate me at all costs. It still seems that they don't want the kids dead.
We pulled through. God knows how. More good luck than good tactics. No casualties on our side. We even captured one of them. Jerome's idea. He's a maniac. Taking prisoners was not in my game plan.
This is the first time I've got my hands on one of them. Not what I expected. Not a high-tech human hologram disguise but an actual human. So they can shape shift between Krai and human form. That's new. Took cell samples. Sending them off for analysis. Maybe Spirit can figure this out.
But the biggest shock: the thing's carrying dog tags. No pun intended. He's a U.S. marine, Robert Weaver. I don't understand. We were pretty sure that they've got government connections, but they've been DRAFTED? Am I missing something here?
Took an executive decision to split off from the kids. They're in a hire car, heading for Vancouver. I'm taking the RV east, making sure I project a high profile. Will drop off "Weaver" then go the opposite direction. I'm hoping to draw the Krai off the scent. Told the kids to lie low till I contact them.
Meanwhile, I want to look more deeply into where "Weaver" came from.
I'm not happy about splitting up. Especially with Jerome in bad shape. Hope I don't regret it. Maybe it will be a good bonding experience for the team.
Yeah, right.
